St. Mark ESL Program’s citizenship preparation program consists of two different forms of instruction:

Part 1 – Citizenship Class

Students participate in a group class. The class reviews the requirements for citizenship, knowledge questions, and English reading and writing skills. The textbook is supplemented by in-class exercises, games, videos, and other interactive activities. The Application for Naturalization (N-400) is discussed, and students who need help with this are referred to workshops or other community resources. The class will not include preparation of the N-400 or practice interviews. Eligible students: Intermediate or Advanced St. Mark ESL students.

Part 2 – Citizenship Tutoring and Interview Practice

Once students have submitted the Application for Naturalization (N-400) and received an acknowledgement that their application has been accepted by the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), they are eligible to receive individual tutoring during class time to prepare for their citizenship interviews. There is no additional charge.  Citizenship tutors meet one-on-one with the students. These private lessons are intense! They include all sections of the citizenship exam, including the knowledge questions and English writing and reading. The citizenship candidates will also participate in practice interviews in which they are asked the kinds of questions they can expect during their citizenship interviews.
